The future of autonomous vehicles has arrived at the City of Playford

The City of Playford is now running a free park ‘n’ ride service from the vacant Holden plant car park to the Lyell McEwin Hospital – using driverless vehicles!

Most of us know how difficult parking is at the Lyell McEwin but visitors and staff can now leave their cars at the Elizabeth plant and take the 1.2km round trip in an electric bus, run by autonomous vehicle manufacturer, EasyMile.

The driverless bus service named ‘Playford Connect’ is the first trial of its kind on a public road and will demonstrate how the vehicle interacts with traffic, parked cars, cyclists and pedestrians.

The trip takes about 15 minutes and is part of the City of Playford’s ‘Smart City’ program.

In Phase 2 of the trial, the driverless bus service will move to the Elizabeth CBD.  People will be able to catch the bus or train to the Elizabeth station and then get on the free autonomous vehicle to take them to the Elizabeth shopping centre.
